Biography
Varalakshmi Manchana working as an Associate Professor in the School of Medical Sciences at University of Hyderabad, India. Intervention. Her research interests are geing and Health, Active & Healthy Ageing, Sleep and Pain connections with Mental and Cognitive Health, Ageing-Nutrition and Disability, Fall risk in Ageing, Child Injuries, Moral Resilience in Health professionals, Adolescent wellbeing, Socio Behavioural Interventions for NCDs, Sleep and Pain, Primary care, Women and gender
health. She started her Professional career in 1993, with 10 years of clinical experience to her credit; her teaching career is since 2005 as Lecturer, worked in various capacities like Assistant Professor, Vice-Principal, and Principal before joining the School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad in November 2010. Dr.Manchana is engaged in teaching for UG, Master nursing programs, and teaches MPH program and supervises PhD in Health Sciences (Nursing and Public health) scholars.
Dr.Manchana developed age sensitive physical exercise (HAAEP-PACE) program for functional health and fall prevention in ageing population. She is recipient of the International fellowship for senior Biomedical Scientists (ICMR, 2022-2023), awarded international faculty mobility program, received international program development grant (2018) and conducted “India Ageing Study” pilot research. She is also recipient of extramural research grants to conduct research on Child Injuries and Health and Social status in QOL of older population by ICMR and ICSSR. Her current research is on ‘Fall risk Prevention for functional health and Cognition in Ageing population’ funded by the Institution of Eminence grant. She has presented her work in the national and international conferences of various countries and published 22 research papers, three book chapters in international indexed journals and ten articles.
